Cooling is one of the main challenges when designing gaming laptops, and ROG engineers are constantly looking for ways to improve it. Their research led to the use of liquid metal, which more efficiently transfers heat from the processor to the cooler. Depending on the specific chip, its advantage over traditional thermal pastes can reach up to 15°C! A lower temperature allows the processor to operate at higher frequencies for longer periods, and the fans can spin at lower speeds.* Temperature improvement is based on ASUS internal testing compared to regular thermal paste. Thermal conductivity is compared to an industrial standard.
Arc Flow fans
Arc Flow fans are equipped with curved blades designed to maximize airflow while minimizing noise levels. Unlike traditional models, their blades are thinner (down to 0.1 mm) at the base and then gradually thicken towards the tips. This variable thickness helps reduce turbulence and, consequently, noise.
When the temperature of the central and graphics processors falls below a certain level and the Silent mode is activated, the cooling system stops the fans, becoming completely silent.
Indeed, it won't distract the user during activities like movie watching or light office work. The fans will start spinning again when the processor temperatures rise due to increased workload.
To dissipate heat from hot components, four radiators are used, consisting of copper fins with a thickness of only 0.1 mm.
Thanks to this, the total number of fins has been increased (up to 218), with a total heat dissipation area of 107,131 mm², and their resistance to airflow is significantly lower compared to traditional radiators, which have fins twice as thick.
In the updated version of the self-cleaning system, the channels for expelling dust particles have smaller dimensions, allowing for more free space around the fan.
This enhances the airflow by 15% compared to the original version.
Good ventilation is key to successful cooling, which is why the screen hinges are shifted forward, leaving more space for ventilation openings at the back.
To ensure that these openings are not obstructed by the display lid, a special trapezoidal cutout has been made in the latter, giving the laptop a distinctive asymmetrical appearance.
During extended gaming sessions, the internal components of the laptop can become so hot that it may be uncomfortable to touch the keyboard.
To address this issue, tiny ventilation openings have been placed around the WASD keys, allowing the fans to draw in cold air into the laptop's chassis.
Up to six heat pipes, servicing the graphics and central processors as well as video memory, are connected to a heat spreader plate that not only prevents overheating of these chips,
but also maintains a safe temperature for the power system components. Even heat distribution contributes to the laptop's stable operation and extends its overall lifespan.
